  25       <div class="body"><p>Arbeidet med å lage et godt, fritt og åpent standardisert maskinelt
  26 grensesnitt for arkivering, med tilhørende fri
  27 programvareimplementasjon fortsetter.  Jeg snakker om
  28 <a href="https://github.com/arkivverket/noark5-tjenestegrensesnitt-standard">Noark
  29 5 Tjenestegrensesnitt</a> og
  30 <a href="https://gitlab.com/OsloMet-ABI/nikita-noark5-core/">Nikita</a>.
  31 Siste nytt etter
  32 <a href="https://www.nuug.no/aktiviteter/20200127-noark-seminar/">seminaret
  33 for noen dager siden</a>, er vi i Nikita-prosjektet har fått beskjed
  34 fra Arkivverket at det blir satt ned en redaksjon for å videreutvikle
  35 spesifikasjonen.  Redaksjonen består av Mona Danielsen og Anne Sofie
  36 Knutsen ved arkivverket, Thomas Sødring ved OsloMet, og meg selv fra
  37 NUUG.  De to sistenevnte tar seg av de åpenbare forbedringene, mens
  38 hele redaksjonen diskuterer tvilstilfeller.  Jeg håper dette vil bidra
  39 til at vi lykkes i å gjøre denne protokollspesifikasjonen så entydig
  40 og klar at den vil bidra til et velfungerende marked for
  41 arkivsystemer, og sikre at programmer som trenger å snakke med
  42 arkivsystemet kan snakke med enhver implementasjon av
  43 API-spesifikasjonen.  Nikita er den første implementasjonen, men det
  44 bør blir flere.</p>

  46 <p>Det gjenstår riktig nok endel før vi er i mål, selv om svært mye
  47 allerede er på plass.  Med innspill og forslag til forbedringer fra
  48 alle som vil ha et leverandøruavhengig og fullstendig
  49 datamaskinlesbart grensesnitt til arkivet, så tror jeg vi vil
  50 lykkes.</p>

 108 tenker på når hverdagen tynger, ble så vidt jeg har klart å finne ut,

 111 flere ulike varianter</a>.  På norsk tror jeg den går under navnet
 112 «Gutten og sjøstjernen», og jeg fant en oversettelse av en utgave av den

 114 <a href="https://no.quora.com/Hva-er-din-favoritthistorie">Quora</a>.
 115 Fant også <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qClChUdlfI">en
 116 filmatisering</a>, men den versjonen jeg liker best fant jeg

 118 Goodreads</a>.  Jeg oversatte den utgaven til norsk i går, og har lyst

 200 have the conscience to accept terms I have no indention of upholding.

 202 they scared away?  Normally I just quietly walk away.  But today, I
 203 tried a new approach.  I sent the following email (removing the
 204 specifics, as I am not out to take the specific service in question)

 252       <div class="body"><p>Four years ago, I did a back of the envelope calculation on

 254 much it would cost to store audio recordings of all the phone calls in
 255 Norway</a>, and came up with NOK 2.1 million / EUR 250 000 for the
 256 year 2013.  It is time to repeat the calculation using updated
 257 numbers.  The calculation is based on how much data storage is needed
 258 for each minute of audio, how many minutes all the calls in Norway
 259 sums up to, multiplied by the cost of data storage.</p>

 261 <p>The number of phone call minutes for 2018 was fetched from
 262 <a href="https://ekomstatistikken.nkom.no/">the NKOM statistics
 263 site</a>, and for 2018, land line calls are listed as 434 238 000
 264 minutes, while mobile phone calls are listed with 7 542 006 000
 265 minutes.  The total number of minutes is thus 7 976 244 000.  For
 266 simplicity, I decided to ignore any advantages in audio compression the
 267 last four years, and continue to assume 60 Kbytes/min as the last
 268 time.</p>

 270 <p>Storage prices still varies a lot, but as last time, I decide to
 271 take a reasonable big and cheap hard drive, and double its price to
 272 include the surrounding costs into account.  A 10 TB disk cost less
 273 than 4500 NOK / 450 EUR these days, and doubling it give 9000 NOK per
 274 10 TB.</p>

 291 dropped since the last time, bringing the cost down to a level where I
 292 guess even small organizations can afford to store the audio recording
 293 from every phone call taken in a year in Norway.  Of course, this is
 294 just the cost of buying the storage equipment.  Maintenance, need to
 295 be included as well, but the volume of a single year is about a single
 296 rack of hard drives, so it is not much more than I could fit in my own
 297 home.  Wonder how much the electricity bill would raise if I had that
 298 kind of storage?  I doubt it would be more than a few tens of thousand
 299 NOK per year.</p>

 315 legally shared on the Internet, I also looked at the Norwegian movies
 316 listed in IMDb.  So far I have identified 54 candidates published
 317 before 1940 that might no longer be protected by norwegian copyright
 318 law.  Of these, only 29 are available at least in part from the
 319 Norwegian National Library.  It can be assumed that the remaining 25
 320 movies are lost.  It seem most useful to identify the copyright status
 321 of movies that are not lost.  To verify that the movie is really no
 322 longer protected, one need to verify the list of copyright holders and
 323 figure out if and when they died.  I've been able to identify some of
 324 them, but for some it is hard to figure out when they died.</p>

 327 possibly no longer protected by copyright law.  The year range
 328 (1909-1979 on the first line) is year of publication and last year

 451 <a href="https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/kz4e3e/millions-of-books-are-secretly-in-the-public-domain-you-can-download-them-free">identifying
 452 books published in the USA that are now in the public domain</a>,
 453 inspired me to update the scripts I use to track down movies that are
 454 in the public domain.  This involved updating the script used to
 455 extract lists of movies believed to be in the public domain, to work
 456 with the latest version of the source web sites.  In particular the
 457 new edition of the <a href="https://retrofilmvault.com/">Retro Film
 458 Vault</a> web site now seem to list all the films available from that
 459 distributor, bringing the films identified there to more than 12.000
 460 movies, and I was able to connect 46% of these to IMDB titles.</p>
 461
 462 <p>The new total is 16307 IMDB IDs (aka films) in the public domain or
 463 creative commons licensed, and unknown status for 31460 movies
 464 (possibly duplicates of the 16307).</p>
 465
 466 <p>The complete data set is available from
 467 <a href="https://github.com/petterreinholdtsen/public-domain-free-imdb">a
 468 public git repository</a>, including the scripts used to create it.</p>

 571 a colorful booklet providing information on several privacy related topics,
 572 and tips on how to protect ones privacy in the digital age.</p>

 574 <p>The 24 page booklet titled Digital Defenders is
 575 <a href="https://edri.org/digital-defenders-help-kids-defend-their-privacy-around-europe">available
 576 in several languages</a>.  Thanks to the valuable contributions from
 577 members of <a href="https://efn.no/">the Electronic Foundation Norway
 578 (EFN)</a> and others, it is also available in Norwegian Bokmål.
