   5 <p>I was surprised today to learn that a friend in academia did not
   6 know there are easily available web services available for writing
   7 LaTeX documents as a team.  I thought it was common knowledge, but to
   8 make sure at least my readers are aware of it, I would like to mention
   9 these useful services for writing LaTeX documents.  Some of them even
  10 provide a WYSIWYG editor to ease writing even further.</p>

  12 <p>There are two commercial services available,
  13 <a href="https://sharelatex.com">ShareLaTeX</a> and
  14 <a href="https://overleaf.com">Overleaf</a>.  They are very easy to
  15 use.  Just start a new document, select which publisher to write for
  16 (ie which LaTeX style to use), and start writing.  Note, these two
  17 have announced their intention to join forces, so soon it will only be
  18 one joint service.  I've used both for different documents, and they
  19 work just fine.  While
  20 <a href="https://github.com/sharelatex/sharelatex">ShareLaTeX is free
  21 software</a>, while the latter is not.  According to <a
  22 href="https://www.overleaf.com/help/17-is-overleaf-open-source">a
  23 announcement from Overleaf</a>, they plan to keep the ShareLaTeX code
  24 base maintained as free software.</p>

  26 But these two are not the only alternatives.
  27 <a href="https://app.fiduswriter.org/">Fidus Writer</a> is another free
  28 software solution with <a href="https://github.com/fiduswriter">the
  29 source available on github</a>.  I have not used it myself.  Several
  30 others can be found on the nice
  31 <a href="https://alternativeto.net/software/sharelatex/">alterntiveTo
  32 web service</a>.

  34 <p>If you like Google Docs or Etherpad, but would like to write
  35 documents in LaTeX, you should check out these services.  You can even
  36 host your own, if you want to. :)</p>
