"body"><p>Half a year ago,

"http://people.skolelinux.org/pere/blog/Jami_Ring__finally_functioning_peer_to_peer_communication_client.html">I
27 wrote

"https://jami.net/">the Jami communication
28 client
</a>, capable of peer-to-peer encrypted communication. It
29 handle both messages, audio and video. It uses distributed hash
30 tables instead of central infrastructure to connect its users to each
31 other, which in my book is a plus. I mentioned briefly that it could
32 also work as a SIP client, which came in handy when the higher
33 educational sector in Norway started to promote Zoom as its video
34 conferencing solution. I am reluctant to use the official Zoom client
35 software, due to their
<a href=
"https://zoom.us/terms">copyright
36 license clauses
</a> prohibiting users to reverse engineer (for example
37 to check the security) and benchmark it, and thus prefer to connect to
38 Zoom meetings with free software clients.
</p>
40 <p>Jami worked OK as a SIP client to Zoom as long as there was no
41 password set on the room. The Jami daemon leak memory like crazy
42 (approximately
1 GiB a minute) when I am connected to the video
43 conference, so I had to restart the client every
7-
10 minutes, which
44 is not a great. I tried to get other SIP Linux clients to work
45 without success, so I decided I would have to live with this wart
46 until someone managed to fix the leak in the dring code base. But
47 another problem showed up once the rooms were password protected. I
48 could not get my dial tone signaling through from Jami to Zoom, and
49 dial tone signaling is used to enter the password when connecting to
50 Zoom. I tried a lot of different permutations with my Jami and
51 Asterisk setup to try to figure out why the signaling did not get
52 through, only to finally discover that the fundamental problem seem to
53 be that Zoom is simply not able to receive dial tone signaling when
54 connecting via SIP. There seem to be nothing wrong with the Jami and
55 Asterisk end, it is simply broken in the Zoom end. I got help from a
56 very skilled VoIP engineer figuring out this last part. And being a
57 very skilled engineer, he was also able to locate a solution for me.
58 Or to be exact, a workaround that solve my initial problem of
59 connecting to password protected Zoom rooms using Jami.
</p>
61 <p>So, how do you do this, I am sure you are wondering by now. The
63 <a href=
"https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/202405539-H-323-SIP-Room-Connector-Dial-Strings#sip">documented
64 from Zoom
</a>, and it is to modify the SIP address to include the room
65 password. What is most surprising about this is that the
66 automatically generated email from Zoom with instructions on how to
67 connect via SIP do not mention this. The SIP address to use normally
68 consist of the room ID (a number), an @ character and the IP address
69 of the Zoom SIP gateway. But Zoom understand a lot more than just the
70 room ID in front of the at sign. The format is "
<tt>[Meeting
71 ID].[Password].[Layout].[Host Key]
</tt>", and you can hear see how you
72 can both enter password, control the layout (full screen, active
73 presence and gallery) and specify the host key to start the meeting.
74 The full SIP address entered into Jami to provide the password will
75 then look like this (all using made up numbers):</p>

"><p>The curiosity got the better of me when

">COBOL</a> programmers,
105 and a few days later it was reported that
106 <a href="https://onezero.medium.com/ibm-rallies-cobol-engineers-to-save-overloaded-unemployment-systems-eeadf13eddce
">IBM
107 tried to locate COBOL programmers</a>.</p>
109 <p>I thus decided to have a look at free software alternatives to
110 learn COBOL, and had the pleasure to find
111 <a href="https://sourceforge.net/projects/open-cobol/
">GnuCOBOL</a> was
112 already <a href="https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/gnucobol
">in
113 Debian</a>. It used to be called Open Cobol, and is a "compiler"
114 transforming COBOL code to C or C++ before giving it to GCC or Visual
115 Studio to build binaries.
</p>
117 <p>I managed to get in touch with upstream, and was impressed with the
118 quick response, and also was happy to see a new Debian maintainer
119 taking over when the original one recently asked to be replaced. A
120 new Debian upload was done as recently as yesterday.
</p>
122 <p>Using the Debian package, I was able to follow a simple COBOL
123 introduction and make and run simple COBOL programs. It was fun to
124 learn a new programming language. If you want to test for yourself,
125 <a href=
"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GnuCOBOL">the GnuCOBOL Wikipedia
126 page
</a> have a few simple examples to get you startet.
</p>
128 <p>As I do not have much experience with COBOL, I do not know how
129 standard compliant it is, but it claim to pass most tests from COBOL
130 test suite, which sound good to me. It is nice to know it is possible
131 to learn COBOL using software without any usage restrictions, and I am
132 very happy such nice free software project as this is available. If

153 overvåkningsløsningen lansert av Folkehelseinstituttet,
154 Simula-senteret og Regjeringen i dag, fulgt av klare trusler fra
155 regjeringen om konsekvenser hvis befolkningen ikke tar den i bruk.
156 Rekker ikke skrive noe fyldig om temaet, men det er klart for meg at
157 den utraderer retten til privatliv samt utgjør en personlig
158 sikkerhetsrisiko for alle som tar den i bruk. Bare det er nok til at
159 det fremstår som en svært dårlig ide å bli med på denne "dugnaden".
160 Det finnes andre og bedre tilnærminger enn den valgt av FHI. Har de
161 valgt sin tilnærming for å sikre seg nok et datasett i den fremtidige
162 ehelse-portalen? Potensialet for misbruk av informasjon samlet inn av
163 appen er for stort, effekten på neste krise for klar og gevinsten for

207 ned. Men bokmål og nynorsk trenger fortsatt stavekontroll, så etter
208 et par purringer fra en som har lyst til å forbedre stavekontrollen
209 har jeg endelig fått lagt ut ny offentlig kopi av git-depotet. Jeg

398 til at vi lykkes i å gjøre denne protokollspesifikasjonen så entydig
399 og klar at den vil bidra til et velfungerende marked for
400 arkivsystemer, og sikre at programmer som trenger å snakke med
401 arkivsystemet kan snakke med enhver implementasjon av
402 API-spesifikasjonen. Nikita er den første implementasjonen, men det
