21 etater, og det var derfor interessant å se en artikkel i Bladet

60 computer books becoming obsolete so soon. That is part of the reason
61 why the selection is so sad in almost any local library (it is in mine
62 too), but I believe the major contributing factor is that the people
63 buying books to the library have no way to know a good and future
64 computer classic from trash. And they need to know which one will
65 become a classic in the future, as they would normally buy one of the
66 recently published books.&lt;/p&gt;

68 &lt;p&gt;During my university years, I worked for a while at the university
69 library, and even there the person in charge of buying computer
70 related books (and in fact any natural science related book), did not
71 know enough about computers to make a good educated guess. Once, just
72 before Christmas, they had some leftover money on the book budget and
73 I was asked if I could pick out a lot of computer books in the
74 university book store, for the library to buy for their collection. I
75 had a great time picking all the books I dreamt of buying and reading,
76 and the books I knew were classics (like most of the
77 &lt;a href=&quot;http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._Richard_Stevens&quot;&gt;Stevens
78 collection&lt;/a&gt;). I picked several of the generic O&#39;Reilly books (ie
79 documenting protocols, formats and systems, not specific versions of
80 products) and stayed away from the &#39;teach yourself X in N days&#39; class.
81 I had a great time, and probably picked out more than a hundred books
82 for the library that evening.&lt;/p&gt;

102 stavekontrollen, og gikk ut versjon 2.1 etter at det var gått fire og
103 et halvt år siden sist. I dag fikk vi sendt ut annonseringen. Her er

112 stavekontrollen ble utgitt, er en ny og forbedret versjon klar. Dette er
113 noe utviklerne er veldig glade for.&lt;/p&gt;

116 skrevet om til å akseptere ord med bindestrek (f.eks. «e-post»). Litt

119 som gjennomfører korrektur av orddatabasen i prosjektet. For å få

352 &lt;p&gt;I have a PhD in chemistry but since several years I work as teacher
353 in secondary (15-18 year old students) and tertiary (a kind of &quot;light&quot;
354 university) schools. Five years ago I started to manage a Learning
355 Management Service server and slowly I got more and more involved with
356 IT. 3 years ago the graduating schools moved completely to Linux and I
357 got the head of the IT for this. The experience collected in chemistry
358 labs computers (for example NMR analysis of protein folding) and in
359 the IT-courses during university where sufficient to start. Self
360 training is anyway very important&lt;/p&gt;

362 &lt;p&gt;I live in the Italian speaking part of Switzerland, and the
363 &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.spse.ch/&quot;&gt;SPSE school&lt;/a&gt; (secondary) is a very
364 special sport school for young people who try to became sport pro (for
365 all sports, we have dozens of disciplines represented) and we are

371 &lt;p&gt;Looking for Linux / Primary Domain Controller (PDC) I found it
372 already several years ago. But since the system was still not
373 Kerberized and since our schools relies strongly on laptops I didn&#39;t
374 use it. I plan to introduce it in the next future, probably for the
375 next school year, since the squeeze release solved this security
376 hole.&lt;/p&gt;

378 &lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;What do you see as the advantages of Skolelinux/Debian
379 Edu?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

381 &lt;p&gt;Many. First of all there is a strong and living community that is
382 very generous for help and hints. Chat help is crucial, together with
383 the mailing list. Second. With Skolelinux you get an already well
384 engineered platform and you don&#39;t have to start to build up your PDC
385 and your clients from GNU/scratch; I&#39;ve already done this once and I
386 can tell it, it is hard. Third, since Skolelinux is a standard
387 platform, it is way easier to educate other IT people and even if the
388 head IT is sick another one could pick up the task without too much
389 hassle.&lt;/p&gt;

391 &lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;What do you see as the disadvantages of Skolelinux/Debian
392 Edu?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

394 &lt;p&gt;The only real problem I see is that it is a little too less
395 flexible at client level. Debian stable is rocky and desirable, but
396 there are many reasons that force for another choice. For example the
397 need of new drivers for new PC, or the need for a specific OS for some
398 devices that have specific software packages for another specific
399 distribution (I have such a case for whiteboards that have only
400 Ubuntu packages). Thus, I prepared compatibility packages educlient
401 and eduroaming, hoping not to use them ;-)&lt;/p&gt;

424 to switch between different OS is a plus value); teachers and managers
425 don&#39;t.&lt;/p&gt;

428 laptop and we have the responsibility to keep the laptop ready to use;
429 we were really unsatisfied with Microsoft since every Monday we had 20
430 machine to fix for viral infections... With Linux this has been
431 reduced to zero, since people installs almost only from official
432 repositories. I think that our special needs brought us to Linux.
433 Those who don&#39;t have such needs will hardly move to Linux.&lt;/p&gt;
