128 <div class=
"body"><p>Do you want to set up your own TV station, schedule videos and
129 broadcast them on the air? Using free software? With video on demand
131 <a href=
"http://www.digistan.org/open-standard:definition">free and
132 open standards
</a>? Included a web based video stream as well? And
133 administrate it all in your web browser from anywhere in the world? A
134 few years now the Norwegian public access TV-channel
135 <a href=
"http://www.frikanalen.no/">Frikanalen
</a> have been building a
136 system to do just this. The source code for the solution is licensed
137 using the GNU LGPL, and
138 <a href=
"http://github.com/Frikanalen">available from github
</a>.
</p>
140 <p>The idea is simple. You upload a video file over the web, and
141 attach meta information to the file. You select a time slot in the
142 program schedule, and when the time come it is played on the air and
143 in the web stream. It is also made available in a video on demand
144 solution for anyone to see it also outside its scheduled time. All
145 you need to run a TV station - using your web browser.
</p>
147 <p>There are several parts to this web based solution. I'll mention
148 the three most important ones. The first part is the database of
149 videos and the schedule. This is written in Django and include a REST
150 API. The current database is SQLite, but the plan is to migrate it to
151 PostgreSQL. At the moment this system can be tested on
152 <a href=
"http://beta.frikanalen.tv/">beta.frikanalen.tv
</a>. The
153 second part is the video playout, taking the schedule information from
154 the database and providing a video stream to broadcast. This is done
155 using
<a href=
"http://www.casparcg.com/">CasparCG from SVT
</a> and
156 <a href=
"http://www.mltframework.org/">Media Lovin' Toolkit
</a>. Video
157 signal distribution is handled using
158 <a href=
"http://www.ob-encoder.com/">Open Broadcast Encoder
</a>. The
159 third part is the converter, handling the transformation of uploaded
160 video files to a format useful for broadcasting, streaming and video
161 on demand. It is still very much work in progress, so it is not yet
162 decided what it will end up using. Note that the source of the latter
163 two parts are not yet pushed to github. The lead author want to clean
164 them up a bit more first.
</p>
166 <p>The development is coordinated on the
167 <a href=

</a> (irc.freenode.net), and discussed on

</p>
232 <a href=
"http://unoit.no/">Uno IT
</a>. Uno IT er eit lite firma som
233 drifter nettverk og maskiner for små og mellomstore firma
234 Steinkjer-området. Per dags dato er me
2 ansatte. Min faglege bakgrunn
240 <a href=
"http://www.bjorkly.no/">Bjørkly skule
</a>, ein privat
241 grunnskule i Namsos-området. I dag har skulen
65 elever,
15 lærere,
1
242 hovedserver og ca
60 klienter som kjører halvtjukt. Eg har bygd og
243 driftet systemet sidan summaren
2006.
</p>
245 <p><strong>Hvordan kom du i kontakt med Skolelinux-prosjektet?
</strong></p>
249 hadde pusla med nettverk for ein annan skule, fatta eg straks
250 interesse for prosjektet.
</p>
Levetid for systemets
</p>
269 at program vert «for gamle». Det er spesielt nettlesaren som er
270 utsett.
</p>
273 <p><strong>Hvilken fri programvare bruker du til daglig?
</strong></p>
275 <p>Til dagleg bruker eg svært mange forskjellige «fri programvare»
276 program. Firefox, Thunderbird, Freecommander, ImgBurn, Clonezilla,
277 OCS inventory, Icinga, Skolelinux, SystemRescueCD og mykje meir.
</p>
</strong></p>
For Skolelinux
Ein må unngå at ein må sette
290 versjon. For å få Skolelinux til å bli eit betre alternativ for skular
291 må ein ha fokus på nettlesaren. Denne må bli «up to date» og støtte
</p>
</p>

342 <div class=

343 <div class=
"body"><p>Here in Norway, electronic invoices are spreading, and the
344 <a href=
"http://www.anskaffelser.no/e-handel/faktura">solution promoted
345 by the Norwegian government
</a> require that invoices are sent through
346 one of the approved facilitators, and it is not possible to send
347 electronic invoices without an agreement with one of these
348 facilitators. This seem like a needless limitation to be able to
349 transfer invoice information between buyers and sellers. My preferred
350 solution would be to just transfer the invoice information directly
351 between seller and buyer, for example using SMTP, or some HTTP based
352 protocol like REST or SOAP. But this might also be overkill, as the
353 "electronic" information can be transferred using paper invoices too,
354 using a simple bar code. My bar code encoding of choice would be QR
355 codes, as this encoding can be read by any smart phone out there. The
356 content of the code could be anything, but I would go with
357 <a href=
"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VCard">the vCard format
</a>, as
358 it too is supported by a lot of computer equipment these days.
</p>
360 <p>The vCard format support extentions, and the invoice specific
361 information can be included using such extentions. For example an
362 invoice from SLX Debian Labs (picked because we
363 <a href=
"http://www.linuxiskolen.no/slxdebianlabs/donations.html">ask
364 for donations to the Debian Edu project

370 X-INVOICE-AMOUNT:NOK1000.00
371 X-INVOICE-KID:

372 X-INVOICE-MSG:Donation to Debian Edu
373 X-BANK-ACCOUNT-NUMBER:
16040884339
374 X-BANK-IBAN-NUMBER:NO8516040884339
375 X-BANK-SWIFT-NUMBER:DNBANOKKXXX
378 <p>The X-BANK-ACCOUNT-NUMBER field was proposed in a stackoverflow
380 <a href=
"http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10045664/storing-bank-account-in-vcard-file">how
381 to put bank account information into a vCard
</a>. For payments in
382 Norway, either X-INVOICE-KID (payment ID) or X-INVOICE-MSG could be
383 used to pass on information to the seller when paying the invoice.
</p>
385 <p>The complete vCard could look like this:
</p>
390 ORG:SLX Debian Labs Foundation
391 ADR;WORK:;;Gunnar Schjelderups vei
29D;OSLO;;
0485;Norway
392 URL;WORK:http://www.linuxiskolen.no/slxdebianlabs/

399 X-BANK-IBAN-NUMBER:NO8516040884339
400 X-BANK-SWIFT-NUMBER:DNBANOKKXXX
404 <p>The resulting QR code created using
405 <a href=
"http://fukuchi.org/works/qrencode/">qrencode
</a> would look
406 like this, and should be readable (and thus checkable) by any smart
407 phone, or for example the
<a href=

</a> and feed right into the approval and accounting
411 <p><img src=
"http://people.skolelinux.org/pere/blog/images/2013-02-12-qr-invoice.png"></p>
413 <p>The extension fields will most likely not show up in any normal
414 vCard reader, so those parts would have to go directly into a system
415 handling invoices. I am a bit unsure how vCards without name parts
416 are handled, but a simple test indicate that this work just fine.

536 <p>With kids in the house, one challenge is getting them to sleep
537 during the night and wake up when it is morning. I mean, when I
538 believe it is morning, and not two hours earlier. In our household we
539 have decided that
07:
00 is the turning point, but getting the kids to
540 sleep until
07:
00 is a small challenge every day. They have adapted
541 quite well, and rarely wake up at
05:
00 any more, but some times wake
542 up at times like
05:
50,
06:
15,
06:
30 or
06:
45, and it is hard to put
543 the awake one to bed again without disturbing and waking the rest.
544 And I understand perfectly well that they fail to sleep until
07:
00
545 some times, as there is no way for them to know if it is before or
546 after the magic moment without coming and asking us parents.
</p>
548 <p>But yesterday I came up with a method to solve this problem. It
549 involve home automation. A few years ago I bought a
550 <a href=
"http://www.telldus.se/products/tellstick">Tellstick
</a> and RF
551 switches at the local
<a href=
"http://www.clasohlson.com/">Clas
552 Ohlson
</a> shop, allowing me to control lights and other electrical
553 gadgets using my Linux server. When I moved from the old flat to a
554 small house, I put away all this equipment as most of the lighting in
555 the house was not using wall sockets and thus not easy to connect to
556 the gadgets I had. But recently I bought a
557 <a href=
"http://www.telldus.se/products/tellstick_net">Tellstick
558 Net
</a> to be able to read sensor input as well as control power
559 sockets. I want to control ovens in the basement to avoid the pipes
560 to freeze, and monitor the humidity to detect flooding. The default
561 setup for Tellstick Net is to be controlled by the vendor web service,
562 which to me is a security problem, but it is also possible to build
564 <a href=
"http://developer.telldus.com/blog/2012/03/02/help-us-develop-local-access-using-tellstick-net-build-your-own-firmware">firmware
565 with local access
</A> instead of being controlled by a Swedish
566 company, thanks to the release of the GPL licensed firmware source
567 code. I plan to get that running before I let it control anything
568 important. But while working on this, one idea to make it easier for
569 the kids came to me yesterday. We can set up a night light controlled
570 by the computer, and turn it automatically on at
07:
00. The kids can
571 then check the light in the morning to know if they are supposed to
572 get up or not. They joined me in setting everything up, and I
573 repeated the concept several times before bed times to make sure they
574 remembered to check the light before getting up in the morning.
</p>
576 <p>We tested it this morning, and all the kids stayed in bed until
577 after
07:
00, and every one of them commented on the fact that the
578 "morning light" was turned on and signalled that the morning had
579 arrived. So this look like a success, and I am excited to see how
580 this develops the next few days. :) I really hope this can allow us
581 all to sleep a bit longer in the morning.
</p>
583 <p>A nice advantage of this setup is that we can remote control when
584 to tell the kids to get up. We do not have to wait until
07:
00, and
585 can also delay it if we want to.
