35 <p>In 2004, as the <a href="https://creativecommons.org/">Creative Commons
36 movement</a> gained momentum, its creator Lawrence Lessig wrote the
37 book <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_Culture_(book)">Free
38 Culture</a> to explain the problems with increasing copyright
39 regulation and suggest some solutions. I read the book back then and
40 was very moved by it. Reading the book inspired me and changed the
41 way I looked on copyright law, and I would love it if more people
42 would read it too.</p>

44 <p>Because of this, I decided in the summer of 2012 to translate it to
45 Norwegian Bokmål and publish it for those of my friends and family
46 that prefer to read books in Norwegian. I translated the book using
47 docbook and a gettext PO file, and a byproduct of this process is a
48 new edition of the English original. I've been in touch with the
49 author during by work, and he said it was fine with him if I also
50 published an English version. So I decided to do so. Today, I made
51 this edition

59 few days. I also plan to publish a French version in a few weeks or
60 months, depending on the amount of people with knowledge of French to
61 join the translation project. So far there is only one active
62 person, but the French book is almost completely translated but
63 need some proof reading.</p>

82 give a copy of the Norwegian edition to members of the Norwegian

161 luck. It is in sharp contrast to the answers made 2013-11-06 by the
162 Norwegian prime minister Erna Solberg to the Norwegian Parliament,

164 Snowden is no Whistle-Blower</a> because he should have taken up his
165 concerns internally and using official channels. It make me sad
166 that this is the political leadership we have here in Norway.</p>

187 <p>The movie "<a href="http://www.takepart.com/internets-own-boy">The
188 Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz</a>" is both inspiring
189 and depressing at the same time. The work of Aaron Swartz has
190 inspired me in my work, and I am grateful of all the improvements he
191 was able to initiate or complete. I wish I am able to do as much good
192 in my life as he did in his. Every minute of this 1:45 long movie is
193 inspiring in documenting how much impact a single person can have on
194 improving the society and this world. And it is depressing in
195 documenting how the law enforcement of USA (and other countries) is
196 corrupted to a point where they can push a bright kid to his death for
197 downloading too many scientific articles. Aaron is dead. Let us all
198 weep.</p>

226 artikkel i Aftenposten</a> der det fortelles at «over 600 telefoner som
227 benyttes av stortingsrepresentanter, rådgivere og ansatte på
228 Stortinget, kan «fjernstyres» ved hjelp av
229 <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.airwatch.androidagent">programvaren
230 Airwatch</a>, et såkalte MDM-program (Mobile Device Managment)». Det
231 hele bagatelliseres av Stortingets IT-stab, men det er i hovedsak på
232 grunn av at journalisten ikke stiller de relevante spørsmålene. For
233 meg er det relevante spørsmålet hvem som har lovlig tilgang (i henhold
234 til lokal lovgiving, dvs. i hvert fall i Norge, Sverige, UK og USA)
235 til informasjon om og på telefonene, og hvor enkelt det er å skaffe
236 seg tilgang til hvor mobilene befinner seg og informasjon som befinner
237 seg på telefonene ved hjelp av utro tjenere, trusler, innbrudd og
238 andre ulovlige metoder.</p>

240 <p>Bruken av AirWatch betyr i realiteten at USAs etteretning og
241 politimyndigheter har full tilgang til stortingets mobiltelefoner,
242 inkludert posisjon og innhold, takket være
243 <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_Intelligence_Surveillance_Act_of_1978_Amendments_Act_of_2008">FISAAA-loven</a>

259 <p>Oppdatering 2015-10-07: Jeg er blitt spurt hvorfor jeg antar at
260 AirWatch-agenten rapporterer til USA og ikke direkte til Stortingets
261 egen infrastruktur. Det stemmer at det er teknisk mulig å sette
262 opp mobiltelefonene til å rapportere til datamaskiner som eies av
263 Stortinget. Jeg antar det rapporteres til AirWatch sine sentrale
264 tjenester basert på det jeg leste fra beskrivelsen av
265 <a href="http://www.airwatch.com/solutions/mobile-device-management/">Mobile
266 Device Management</A> på AirWatch sine egne nettsider, koblet med at
267 det brukes en standard app som kan hentes fra "app-butikkene" for å få
268 tilgang. Enten må app-en settes opp individuelt hos Stortinget, eller
269 så får den beskjed fra AirWatch i USA om hvor den skal koble seg opp.
270 I det første tilfellet vil den ikke rapportere direkte til USA, men
271 til programvare utviklet av AirWatch som kjører på en maskin under
272 Stortingets kontroll. Det er litt bedre, men fortsatt vil det være
273 umulig for Stortinget å være sikker på hva programvaren som tar imot
274 forbindelser gjør. Jeg ser fra beskrivelsen av
275 <a href="http://www.airwatch.com/differentiators/enterprise-integration/">Enterprice
276 Integration</a> hos AirWatch at det er mulig å ha lokal installasjon,
277 og håper innsynsforespørsler mot Stortinget kan fortelle mer om
278 hvordan ting konkret fungerer der.</p>

299 <p>As I wrap up the Norwegian version of
300 <a href="https://github.com/petterreinholdtsen/free-culture-lessig">Free
301 Culture</a> book by Lawrence Lessig (still waiting for my final proof
302 reading copy to arrive in the mail), my great
303 <a href="http://dblatex.sourceforge.net/">dblatex</a> helper and
304 developer of the dblatex docbook processor, Benoît Guillon, decided a
305 to try to create a French version of the book. He started with the
306 French translation available from the
307 <a href="http://www.wikilivres.ca/wiki/Culture_libre">Wikilivres wiki
308 pages</a>, and wrote a program to convert it into a PO file, allowing
309 the translation to be integrated into the po4a based framework I use
310 to create the Norwegian translation from the English edition. We meet
311 on the <a href="irc://irc.freenode.net/%23dblatex">#dblatex IRC
312 channel</a> to discuss the work. If you want to help create a French
313 edition, check out
314 <a href="https://github.com/marsgui/free-culture-lessig">his git
315 repository</a> and join us on IRC. If the French edition look good,
316 we might publish it as a paper book on lulu.com. A French version of
317 the drawings and the cover need to be provided for this to happen.</p>
