25

Five years ago,
26 I
27 measured what the most supported MIME type in Debian was, by
28 analysing the desktop files in all packages in the archive. Since
29 then, the DEP-11 AppStream system has been put into production, making
30 the task a lot easier. This made me want to repeat the measurement,
31 to see how much things changed. Here are the new numbers, for
32 unstable only this time:
33
34
Debian Unstable:

61
The list was created like this using a sid chroot: "cat
62 /var/lib/apt/lists/*sid*_dep11_Components-amd64.yml.gz| zcat | awk '/^
63 - \S+\/\S+$/ {print $2 }' | sort | uniq -c | sort -nr | head -20"

64
65
It is interesting to see how image formats have passed text/plain
66 as the most announced supported MIME type. These days, thanks to the
67 AppStream system, if you run into a file format you do not know, and
68 want to figure out which packages support the format, you can find the
69 MIME type of the file using "file --mime <filename>", and then
70 look up all packages announcing support for this format in their
71 AppStream metadata (XML or .desktop file) using "appstreamcli
72 what-provides mimetype <mime-type>. For example if you, like
73 me, want to know which packages support inode/directory, you can get a
74 list like this:

75
76

77 % appstreamcli what-provides mimetype inode/directory | grep Package: | sort
78 Package: anjuta
79 Package: audacious

107
108
Using the same method, I can quickly discover that the Sketchup file
109 format is not yet supported by any package in Debian:

110
111

112 % appstreamcli what-provides mimetype application/vnd.sketchup.skp
113 Could not find component providing 'mimetype::application/vnd.sketchup.skp'.
114 %
115

116
117
Yesterday I used it to figure out which packages support the STL 3D
118 format:

119
120

121 % appstreamcli what-provides mimetype application/sla|grep Package
122 Package: cura
123 Package: meshlab
124 Package: printrun

127
128
PS: A new version of Cura was uploaded to Debian yesterday.

146
8th July 2018

147

Quite regularly, I let my Debian Sid/Unstable chroot stay untouch
148 for a while, and when I need to update it there is not enough free
149 space on the disk for apt to do a normal 'apt upgrade'. I normally
150 would resolve the issue by doing 'apt install <somepackages>' to
151 upgrade only some of the packages in one batch, until the amount of
152 packages to download fall below the amount of free space available.
153 Today, I had about 500 packages to upgrade, and after a while I got
154 tired of trying to install chunks of packages manually. I concluded
155 that I did not have the spare hours required to complete the task, and
156 decided to see if I could automate it. I came up with this small
157 script which I call 'apt-in-chunks':

158
159

160 #!/bin/sh
161 #
162 # Upgrade packages when the disk is too full to upgrade every
163 # upgradable package in one lump. Fetching packages to upgrade using
164 # apt, and then installing using dpkg, to avoid changing the package
165 # flag for manual/automatic.
166
167 set -e
168
169 ignore() {
170 if [ "$1" ]; then
171 grep -v "$1"
172 else
173 cat
174 fi
175 }
176
177 for p in $(apt list --upgradable | ignore "$@" |cut -d/ -f1 | grep -v '^Listing...'); do
178 echo "Upgrading $p"
179 apt clean
180 apt install --download-only -y $p
181 for f in /var/cache/apt/archives/*.deb; do
182 if [ -e "$f" ]; then
183 dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/*.deb
184 break
185 fi
186 done
187 done
188

189
190
The script will extract the list of packages to upgrade, try to
191 download the packages needed to upgrade one package, install the
192 downloaded packages using dpkg. The idea is to upgrade packages
193 without changing the APT mark for the package (ie the one recording of
194 the package was manually requested or pulled in as a dependency). To
195 use it, simply run it as root from the command line. If it fail, try
196 'apt install -f' to clean up the mess and run the script again. This
197 might happen if the new packages conflict with one of the old
198 packages. dpkg is unable to remove, while apt can do this.

199
200
It take one option, a package to ignore in the list of packages to
201 upgrade. The option to ignore a package is there to be able to skip
202 the packages that are simply too large to unpack. Today this was
203 'ghc', but I have run into other large packages causing similar
204 problems earlier (like TeX).

205
206
Update 2018-07-08: Thanks to Paul Wise, I am aware of two
207 alternative ways to handle this. The "unattended-upgrades
208 --minimal-upgrade-steps" option will try to calculate upgrade sets for
209 each package to upgrade, and then upgrade them in order, smallest set
210 first. It might be a better option than my above mentioned script.
211 Also, "aptutude upgrade" can upgrade single packages, thus avoiding
212 the need for using "dpkg -i" in the script above.

239 into a shaft leading to its shipping harbour. This downward movement
240 in this shaft is used to produce electricity. In short, it is using
241 falling rocks instead of falling water to produce electricity, and
242 according to its own statements it is producing more power than it is
243 using, and selling the surplus electricity to the Norwegian power
244 grid. I find the concept truly amazing. Is this the worlds only

263
26th June 2018

264

My movie playing setup involve Kodi,
265 OpenELEC (probably soon to be
266 replaced with LibreELEC) and an
267 Infocus IN76 video projector. My projector can be controlled via both
268 a infrared remote controller, and a RS-232 serial line. The vendor of
269 my projector, InFocus, had been
270 sensible enough to document the serial protocol in its user manual, so
271 it is easily available, and I used it some years ago to write
272 a
273 small script to control the projector. For a while now, I longed
274 for a setup where the projector was controlled by Kodi, for example in
275 such a way that when the screen saver went on, the projector was
276 turned off, and when the screen saver exited, the projector was turned
277 on again.

278
279
A few days ago, with very good help from parts of my family, I
280 managed to find a Kodi Add-on for controlling a Epson projector, and
281 got in touch with its author to see if we could join forces and make a
282 Add-on with support for several projectors. To my pleasure, he was
283 positive to the idea, and we set out to add InFocus support to his
284 add-on, and make the add-on suitable for the official Kodi add-on
285 repository.

286
287
The Add-on is now working (for me, at least), with a few minor
288 adjustments. The most important change I do relative to the master
289 branch in the github repository is embedding the
290 pyserial module in
291 the add-on. The long term solution is to make a "script" type
292 pyserial module for Kodi, that can be pulled in as a dependency in
293 Kodi. But until that in place, I embed it.

294
295
The add-on can be configured to turn on the projector when Kodi
296 starts, off when Kodi stops as well as turn the projector off when the
297 screensaver start and on when the screesaver stops. It can also be
298 told to set the projector source when turning on the projector.
299
300
If this sound interesting to you, check out
301 the
302 project github repository. Perhaps you can send patches to
303 support your projector too? As soon as we find time to wrap up the
304 latest changes, it should be available for easy installation using any
305 Kodi instance.

306
307
For future improvements, I would like to add projector model
308 detection and the ability to adjust the brightness level of the
309 projector from within Kodi. We also need to figure out how to handle
310 the cooling period of the projector. My projector refuses to turn on
311 for 60 seconds after it was turned off. This is not handled well by
312 the add-on at the moment.

Men for NRK her i Norge, finnes det heldigvis flere fri
340 programvare-alternativer, som jeg har
341 skrevet

359 brukes:

360
361

362 youtube-dl --write-sub --sub-format ttml \
363 --convert-subtitles srt --embed-subs \
364 https://tv.nrk.no/serie/ramm-ferdig-gaa/MUHU11000316/27-04-2018
365

366
367
Merk
369 at VLC ikke viser frem undertekster før du aktiverer dem. For å gjøre
374 feilrapport i youtube-dl-prosjektets samling over feilrapporter.

375
376

386 prosjektoversikten for

412 ligger i DNS.
Listen over

447 mottaker via tjenestens websider.
450 korrespondanse.
452 du befinner deg (vha. tilkoblingens IP-adresse), hvilket utstyr du
457 integritet i dagens norske samfunn.

483
While I totally agree with the senator here, the way the quote is

506
21st March 2018

507

So, Cambridge Analytica is getting some well deserved criticism for
508 (mis)using information it got from Facebook about 50 million people,
509 mostly in the USA. What I find a bit surprising, is how little
510 criticism Facebook is getting for handing the information over to
511 Cambridge Analytica and others in the first place. And what about the
512 people handing their private and personal information to Facebook?
513 And last, but not least, what about the government offices who are
514 handing information about the visitors of their web pages to Facebook?
515 No-one who looked at the terms of use of Facebook should be surprised
516 that information about peoples interests, political views, personal
517 lifes and whereabouts would be sold by Facebook.

518
519
What I find to be the real scandal is the fact that Facebook is
520 selling your personal information, not that one of the buyers used it
521 in a way Facebook did not approve when exposed. It is well known that
522 Facebook is selling out their users privacy, but a scandal
523 nevertheless. Of course the information provided to them by Facebook
524 would be misused by one of the parties given access to personal
525 information about the millions of Facebook users. Collected
526 information will be misused sooner or later. The only way to avoid
527 such misuse, is to not collect the information in the first place. If
528 you do not want Facebook to hand out information about yourself for
529 the use and misuse of its customers, do not give Facebook the
530 information.

531
532
Personally, I would recommend to completely remove your Facebook
533 account, and take back some control of your personal information.
534 According
535 to The Guardian, it is a bit hard to find out how to request
536 account removal (and not just 'disabling'). You need to
537 visit
538 a specific Facebook page and click on 'let us know' on that page
539 to get to the
540 real account deletion screen. Perhaps something to consider? I
541 would not trust the information to really be deleted (who knows,
542 perhaps NSA, GCHQ and FRA already got a copy), but it might reduce the
543 exposure a bit.

544
545
If you want to learn more about the capabilities of Cambridge
546 Analytica, I recommend to see the video recording of the one hour talk
547 Paul-Olivier Dehaye gave to NUUG last april about
548
549 Data collection, psychometric profiling and their impact on
550 politics.

551
552
And if you want to communicate with your friends and loved ones,
553 use some end-to-end encrypted method like
554 Signal or
555 Ring, and stop sharing your private
556 messages with strangers like Facebook and Google.

570
14th March 2018

571

575 tid.
Blodprøven lagres i dag i inntil seks år.
581 Stortingets
