   8 attacks</a> on Wikileak, it has become obvious that paypal, visa and
   9 mastercard can not be trusted to handle money transactions.

  11 post from Simon Phipps on bitcoin</a> reminded me about the project
  12 that a friend of mine mentioned earlier.  I decided to follow Simons
  13 example, and get involved with
  14 <a href="http://www.bitcoin.org/">bitcoins</a>.  I got some help from
  15 my friend to get it all running, and he even handed me some bitcoins
  16 to get started.  I even donated a few bitcoins to Simon for helping me
  17 to remember bitcoins.</p>

  19 <p>So, what is bitcoins, you probably wonder.  It is a digital
  20 crypto-currency, decentralised and handled using peer-to-peer
  21 networks.  It allow anonymous transactions and prohibit central
  22 control over the transactions, making it impossible for governments
  23 and companies alike to block donations and other transactions.  The
  24 source is free software, and while the key dependency wxWidgets 2.9
  25 for the graphical user interface is missing in Debian, the command
  26 line client build just fine.  Hopefully Jonas
  27 <a href="http://bugs.debian.org/578157">will get the package into
  28 Debian</a> soon.</p>

  30 <p>Bitcoins can be converted to other currencies, like USD and EUR.
  31 There are companies accepting bitcoins when selling services and
  32 goods, and there is even currency "stock" markets where the exchange
  33 rate is decided.  There are not many users so far, but the concept
  34 seem promising.  If you want to get started and lack a friend without
  35 any bitcoins to spare, you can even get
  36 <a href="https://freebitcoins.appspot.com/">some for free</a> (0.05
  37 bitcoin at the time of writing).</p>
